Steven James: The Pawn (The Patrick Bowers Files Book 1)

The Pawn
In Steven James' first Patrick Bowers File Book he crafts a deep and compelling cast of complex characters. This book is riveting and suspenseful. Patrick is a character that seems more real to me than the average crime-thriller protagonist. He has a family in his step-daughter, Tessa, but is wounded from the grief of being widowed. This makes for a complex background story of Pat discovering and questioning the faith (Christianity) of his wife who has passed, and trying to sort out being a single dad to a teenage daughter. In the midst of this Pat is investigating a serial killer who leaves chess pieces with his victims. Pat is an environmental criminologist, he looks at the time and location of the events of the crime and criminal, in order to locate the killers home base and in turn catch the killer. Things eventually turn personal and Pat must use all of his resources and wits to protect Tessa. The ending kept me guessing and I look forward to reading every book in this series.

In Short: Read it but beware because you will be hooked in finding out what happens next in Pat's complex world.
